Information Technologist, Programmer/Analyst

Position Summary:
Responsible for designing and implementing cost effective, high quality large applications to meet or exceed customer needs. Recommends appropriate technology to accomplish these requirements. Possesses a high level of technical (software and hardware) skills, while coordinating project team members in the design, execution and testing of integrated application systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understands the needs of the customers as they relate to a particular project, product line, business unit, related service offerings and/or customer objectives. Willing to go extra mile to meet customer needs.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of information systems, processes, tools, testing/quality assurance procedures and platforms. A high level of demonstrated programming and problem solving skills applicable to the current environment.
  • Able to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Embraces established standards and methods to produce high quality solutions.
  • Ability to effectively plan, coordinate and perform multiple tasks while keeping stakeholders informed and meeting agreed upon schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members, clients and others throughout the company in a concise manner.
  • Committed to continually acquiring skills and knowledge in new technologies
  • Defines and communicates objective measurements to support strategic and tactical goals.
  • Ability to effectively plan, coordinate and monitor multiple projects.
  • Ability to take highly technical or complex information and translate it so that non-technical individuals can understand and use it.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with 3 - 5 yrs mainframe programming, systems analysis and design experience.
  • PC platform skills and 2 years of project management. Min. 2 yrs of experience in SAS, relational databases, open systems technology, SQL, PL/SQL and HTML.
  • Familiar with working on an UNIX environment.
  • Mainframe programming skills (e.g., Quick, Cobol).
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical or abstract concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
  • Understands of the purpose and functionality of the majority of Polk’s products and organizational processes.
  • Understands data files and common data processing functions.
  • Understands the methodology to define, analyze and design an automated solution.
  • Proficient at using scheduling/process tools (e.g.: Control-M/D, KRON, Visual Source Safe, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable of multiple file access methods, including databases.
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware and operating system capabilities in multiple environments.
  • Understands connections between platforms and how to move data between them. Knowledgeable in available file management systems and their use.
  • Ability to use code debugging tools (e.g.,.Xpeditor).
